* A blog where the islands of the Azores play the main role...
Este ano fizeram-me uma oferta muito especial... Calandários do Advento.

This year I received a very special gift… Advent Calendars. Inge gave me a few from here personal collection. It was difficult choosing which to keep. Inge’s collection has been exhibited in libraries in the United States of America and Germany.
Advent is the four-week period leading up to Christmas.
The tradition of german advent calendars goes back to the 19th century when children would draw Christmas pictures on 24 pieces of paper to hung up around the house with the specific purpose to count down and shorten the days until Christmas.
The earliest form of a home-made Advent calendar goes back to 1851. Apparently the wife of a Protestant pastor crafted small Christmas boxes for her impatient son, filling each box with a cookie. Gerhard Lang, the impatient boy grew up to become the oficial inventor of printed paper Advent calendars as we know them today. This long-standing tradition owes its origin to the creativity of the mother of na impatient child who had a difficult time waiting for Christmas.
Here are a few D.I.Y Advent Calendars to enjoy yourself while waiting for Christmas…
